Install Game Shot Darts on macOS

For Macs with Apple Silicon (M1 or newer) and macOS 14 Sonoma or newer. Python and Node.js are not required. Intel Macs are not supported.

Other systems: Linux · Windows · Deutsch: macOS

1. Install

Download gameshotdarts-<version>-macos-arm64.dmg from the download page, open it and drag Game Shot Darts onto Applications. The app is signed by CodeFabrik GmbH and notarized by Apple, so macOS opens it without warnings.

What Where
App /Applications/Game Shot Darts.app
Settings and data (created on the first start) ~/Library/Application Support/gameshotdarts (config.toml, data/)

Prefer the Terminal? This installs the same app plus a shortcut on the Desktop and the gameshotdarts command (~/.local/bin/gameshotdarts), which the camera commands below use:

curl -fsSL https://gameshotdarts.app/install.sh | sh

2. Start

Double-click Game Shot Darts on the Desktop, in Launchpad or in Applications. Game Shot Darts opens in its own window, like any other app; the server runs in the background as long as the window is open. Close the window or quit with ⌘Q to stop Game Shot Darts. The log is written to ~/Library/Application Support/gameshotdarts/gameshotdarts.log.

Prefer the browser? gameshotdarts launch --browser in Terminal starts the server and opens the UI in the default browser instead (Ctrl+C stops it).

On the first start, macOS asks:

To start it from the Dock, drag Game Shot Darts.app from Applications to the Dock.

Phones, tablets and TVs on the home network open http://<address of this Mac>:8000; the home screen of the app shows the address and a QR code.

3. Set up the cameras

In the app: Settings → Cameras → Set up cameras. Search for cameras lists the connected ones; add the three dart cameras, choose where each one is mounted (top, bottom right, bottom left) and click Save and restart. Game Shot Darts writes them to config.toml and restarts on its own; then calibrate the board on the same page.

The same by hand, or for options the app doesn't show (resolution, camera controls):

In Terminal:

~/.local/bin/gameshotdarts devices

Lists the connected cameras by number (0, 1, 2, …); the built-in FaceTime camera is usually 0. Open the settings file:

open -e ~/Library/Application\ Support/gameshotdarts/config.toml

Remove the # in front of the three [[cameras]] blocks and enter the numbers of the dart cameras as device. Then quit and restart Game Shot Darts and calibrate the board on the Cameras page of the UI.

Notes for macOS:

The comments in config.toml explain the options (resolution, exposure, detection).

4. Start at login (optional)

System Settings → General → Login Items → + → choose Game Shot Darts.app. Game Shot Darts then opens in its window after every login.

Update

Run the install command again. Settings and data are kept.

Uninstall

curl -fsSL https://gameshotdarts.app/install.sh | sh -s -- --uninstall

This removes the app, the Desktop shortcut and the command. Settings and data stay in ~/Library/Application Support/gameshotdarts; delete that folder too to remove everything.
